KENTUCKY DERBY, EPSOM DERBY, ROYAL ASCOT AND MORE!

Tis the season for hats, hats and still more hats!  I've been so busy making hats, that I've not had time
for too much else!  But I won't complain, as I've been having fun doing what I love!

I'm looking forward to my trip to Louisville this weekend.  Julia Comer, owner of the Flo Gallery,
will be hosting a hat trunk show and I will be on hand to assist Derby goers as they look for that perfect hat to match their outfit!

I particularly love being in Kentucky during the week leading up to Derby day. I get to see sooo many cool hats, and both men and women dressed to the nines as they attend events leading up to Derby weekend!

Then, right after that it's back to London for Made in Clerkenwell, Epsom Derby, Royal Ascot and who knows what else....

Oh yes!  www.joyscottmillinery.com is now www.joyscotthats.com.  Working on a new website...... so stay tuned!

For the love of chocolate..... and jelly bellys!

For the Love of Chocolate Scholarship Foundation held its annual fundraising event on Saturday, February 23rd, at the Union League Club.  When talented artist Jessie Smith-Larson invited me to make a headpiece to match the dress she was making, I just couldn't say no!  I had so much fun creating the sweet smelling jelly belly headpiece!!  The Cocoa Couture fashion show was sponsored by Jelly Belly, and there were so many cool pieces seen on the catwalk, including chocolate hats, dresses and purses, and other designs made using kitchen hardware!  The event was a huge success, raising over $100,000!

IT'S A NEW YEAR AND A NEW DAY

Can't believe we're two weeks into 2013 already! Where did the last year go? I had an amazing 2012 and looking forward to seeing what 2013 has in store!

Highlight of my year:

I was tickled when I got a phone call from Princess Maria-Anna Galitzine, and extremely flattered when she told me she had seen my work a couple of years earlier and was waiting for the opportunity to have me make her a hat! She commissioned a hat to wear to the wedding of Archduke Imre and Archduchess Kathleen.

More photos of the wedding can be seen at: Washington's Imperial Wedding

The princess also owns this hat of mine too.

REDESIGNING FASHION

2013 got off to a smashing start for me, with a hat that I made from recycled materials being included in the Redesigning Fashion exhibition at the Stockport Hat museum!

REGINA TAYLOR BRINGS CROWNS TO THE GOODMAN THEATRE

Multi-talented award-winning actress Regina Taylor brings Crowns to the Goodman Theatre.
Crowns is a not-to-be-missed celebration of song, dance, cultural history - and glamorous headwear. This jubilant musical traces the roots of Gospel through contemporary hip-hop, fusing rich storytelling with abundant "hattitude" into a stirring coming-of-age tale. Opening night is June 30th.

I was one of the lucky Chicago milliners who Regina invited to have their work on display at the Goodman Theater during Crowns performances.

FASHIONING THE MINDSCAPE RUNWAY SHOW

I felt honored to be one of 5 designers invited to speak at the fashion show of graduating
fashion design students from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.   A selection of the accessory design students' work was on display as the Palm Court at the Drake Hotel was transformed into a catwalk. The future of Chicago fashion is in good hands!  Here are some
photos of their amazing work:
